2018 APS Head of the River
The 151st boys Head of the River and the girls 38th Head of the River were conducted on Saturday 19th March 2018 at Nagambie Lakes. The weather was cool to mild and overcast. Light south west winds strengthened to moderate during the day. These winds were deemed to provide advantage to south side of the course at 11.15am. The forecast was for the wind to strengthen so finals were drawn with favoured crews on the south side.
As in 2016, the regatta date again clashed with the National Championships with Scotch going to extraordinary lengths to compete at both events. They competed in Sydney on Friday, Saturday at Nagambie and Sydney on Sunday. This year they won the Head of the River and finished second at the National Championships.
The A final of the boys Head of the River was one of tightest seen for many years with a bit over two lengths covering the first four crews. It was a great race. Geelong Grammar, this year pushed by Wesley College, took out the girls Head of the River by just over a length.
