King’s Wins Third in a Row. (Phil Wilkins, Sydney Morning Herald, 14 Apr 1969)

The King’s School won the Head of the River for the third successive year in a stirring finish from Newington on the Nepean yesterday.

The margin was only a quarter of a length but The King’s completed the exhausting 1 ½ miles a picture of efficiency and assurance, its stamina and rhythm quits unimpaired. Coach Bon Buntine must be losing his touch. Only the day before he had claimed his crew was not entitled to regatta favouritism.

But if he or any other rowing man preferred another crew to shoulder the psychological burden, then The King’s crew was not the least concerned by the responsibility. The King’s was the biggest boat on the river this year, averaging just under 13 stone a man. It knew it was a good crew and had the confidence to go with the job.
