1954 South Australian Schools' Head of the River

Saturday, 24 April – Torrens Lake:

The 1954 SA Head of the River featured the following events on the Torrens Lake:

- First Eight

- Clinker Fours (Seconds)

- Open Tub Fours (Slides)

- Under 16 Tub Fours (Slides)

- Under 15 Tub Fours (Slides)


The Advertiser wrote that Scotch College won the First Eight for the first time since 1944 and whilst doing so, setting a new record of 2 min 54 sec. As a result, Scotch broke St. Peter's 7-year strangehold on the Gosse Shield. Scotch College also won the Under 15 Tub Four, Prince Alfred College won the Clinker Four and Open Tub Four, and St. Peter's College won the Under 16 Tub Four.
