Beaten by Bundeswehr, GER by 2 lengths in Round 2 of 3. The Henley Regatta Records 2014-19 reported as follows. 2019 was a very special year as the Regatta commemorated the centenary of the Royal Henley Peace Regatta which was held in 1919 to help the Allies build peace after the Great War. For the first time in the Regatta's history, mixed military crews raced over the Course. Crews from the original six nations of Australia, Canada, France, New Zealand, Great Britain and the United States of America were joined by crews representing Germany and the Netherlands to compete in The King's Cup event for eight-oared boats. These crews raced for a new King's Cup trophy, which was won by the eight representing the United States Anned Forces.

And later on the Australian's semi-final. Bundeswehr, Germany had the better start and took the early lead in their semi-final against the Australian Defence Force, but were warned for their steering approaching Fawley. The Australians pushed hard to stay in contact and had reduced the deficit to half a length by the mile, but could not get back on terms. Bundeswelu· rowed away along the enclosures to win by one and a quarter lengths.

Another great semi-final saw Scotch College taking a three foot lead over St Paul's at the quarter mile but St Paul's, striking 38, drew back level at the Barrier. Scotch College maintained their rate of striking at 36 and at Fawley had regained a slender lead of two feet. Scotch College then consolidated and increased their lead to three-quarters of a length at the mile and an eighth. St Paul's School challenged bravely and increased their rate of striking to 41 up the enclosures, but Scotch College held on to win by one-third of a length.

The Final was expected to be hotly contested and did not disappoint. The crews were well-matched off the Start and along the Island, and at the quarter mile they were still level with both rating 3 7. At the Barrier, Eton College, still striking 37 and one pip higher than Scotch College, managed to pull slightly ahead by three feet. At the mile signal Scotch made a concerted push and put Eton under some pressme. Eton, however, rowing long and with sh·ength and rhythm, gradually and steadily extended their lead up the enclosures despite Scotch College's efforts. Maintaining their composure, Eton won by one and a quarter lengths.

In the Final, Sydney Rowing Club went off the Start with purpose and, although rating slightly lower than N.S.R. Oslo, took a lead of half a length by the Barrier and increased it to one and a quarter lengths at Fawley. Oslo pushed hard after Fawley and closed slightly, but Sydney remained composed and countered everything thrown at them. Although Oslo raised their rate of striking to 42 up the enclosures, Sydney were still in control and won by one length.

Mercantile Rowing Club (VIC) - Carl A. Tomczak, Jack L. Kelly, James E. Hoban, Angus F. Maloney (s—steers)

Beaten by N.S.R. Oslo, Norway by ¾ lengths. The Henley Regatta Records 2014-19 reported on their semi-final as follows. A terrific semi-final on Saturday saw Mercantile Rowing Club, Australia get off to a furious start and the crews were level at the one-quarter mile. Both crews had been warned for steering along the Island, but Mercantile managed to inch out to a lead of half a length at the Barrier and held this advantage to the three-quarter mile. They could never quite shake off the Oslo crew, however, who seemed to have more left and took the lead before the mile signal. Oslo never gained clear water but won an excellent race by three-quarters of a length.

At the quarter mile, Mercantile had a lead of three-quarters ofa length which tbey increased to one length at the Barrier. Molesey, seemingly unperturbed and rowing with a long, strong rhythm, clawed back the Australians' lead, and by Fawley Mercantile led by only half a length with both crews rating 3 7.
