Queensland University & Mosman Rowing Club - Bow: Mike Nielsen, 2: David M Rose, 3: Ian R Edmunds, Str: Graham A Edmunds, Cox: S J Annear

In the first round, the Australians had an easy win over Worcestor Polytechnic Institute, USA. However they were no match for the winners University of London and Tyrian Boat Clubs of the UK. The Australian started rating 42 with London University two points lower at 39. London got an early 2 length lead which extended to 3 lengths at the Barrier. The Australian over rated the English crew by a lot throughout the race. London University finished 2 1/2 lengths in front.

Silver Goblets & Nickalls' Challenge Cup

Round 1

 

Mercantile Rowing Club (VIC) - Bow: Mark Doyle, Str: David Doyle

Unfortunately the young Doyle brothers met the eventual winners in the first round. Ivancic and Celent of the Veslacki Klub 'Gusar', Yugoslavia won this round but only by 2 1/2 lengths.

Perth & Collegians Rowing Club (WA) - Anthony J Lovrich

Mosman Rowing Club (NSW) - Jordi Martin

Tony Lovrich started well defeating A N Williams of St Thomas's Hospital London easily in the first round. He again won easily in the second round against M R  Hayes of Kingston Rowing Club. However in the semi-finals he came up against the eventual winner C L Baillieu. Whilst Baillieu won all his heats easily, Lovrich was well in contention for half a mile, when he hit the booms.

 Martin struck finalist A Whitwell in the first round and was no match for him.
