Thames Challenge Cup

Beaten by Frankfurter RG., Germany by 6 feet in Round 4 of 5 (semi-finalists). The Henley Regatta Records 2010-14 reported the semi-final as follows. Frankfurter's semi-final opponents were Mercantile R.C., Australia who provided an even sterner test for the German crew. Both crews rowed 42 strokes in the first minute and it initially looked as if the German crew would move steadily ahead, leading by two feet at the first signal, by a canvas at the Barrier and by two thirds of a length at Fawley. Approaching Remenham Club Mercantile started to push back, slowly reducing the deficit until only a quarter of a length separated the crews at the mile and an eighth signal where both crews were rating 36. In the sprint for the line the Frankfurter crew managed to stay ahead - the final verdict was six feet.

Beaten by Leander and Imperial Coll. London, by 1 ¾ lengths in Round 2 of 3 (Semi-finalists).  

The Henley Regatta Records reported on the semi-final in the following manner.  The Leander and Imperial College crew, the British national eight, rowed 43 strokes in the first minute against 42 strokes by the Australian national eight and led by half a length at the first signal. Still rating 39 Leander and Imperial had increased their lead to one length at the Barrier. By Fawley their lead was one and a half lengths and they effectively maintained this lead through to the Finish.

Beaten by Harvard Univ., USA by 1 ¾ lengths in Round 1 of 4.

Beaten by Star Club by 3 lengths in Round 2 of 5.

National Training Centre (AUS) -  Chris J. Morgan (b), Rhys Grant, Cameron N. Girdlestone, Kieran E. Kobelke (s)

Beaten by Leander & Agecroft R. C. in the finals by 1 length (Finalists). The Henley Regatta Records 2010-14 reported on the final as follows. The Final produced another great race in this extremely competitive event. Leander and Agecroft sculled 43 strokes in the first minute against 42 strokes by the Australians and led by one length at the first signal. They extended their lead to one and a half lengths at the Barrier but the Australians then started to fight back, reducing the lead to two thirds of a length at Fawley. The British quad responded and, with both crews sculbng at 35, Leander and Agecroft had a lead of one length at the three-quarter mile signal which they maintained to the mile signal. Along the enclosures the Australians fought to get back on terms but to no avail. Leander and Agecroft won a splendid race by one length. 

The British quad went on to win a Silver Medal at the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam.

Beaten by Cardiff Univ. & Cardiff City by 1 ¾ lengths in Round 2 of 4.

Beaten by Upper Thames R.C. ‘A’ by ½ length in Round 3 of 4 (semi-finalists).

National Training Centre (AUS) - Nicholas R Purnell

Beaten by A. M. O. Drysdale by 3 lengths in Round 3 of 4 (semi-finalist). 

The Henley Regatta Records 2010-14 reported on the semi-final as follows. In the semi-final Drysdale sculled 36 strokes in the first minute against 41 strokes by Purnell from the Australian National Training Centre and at the first signal the scullers were level. Drysdale then slowly but steadily pulled away. He led by two feet at the Barrier and by one and a quarter lengths at Fawley. Sculling powerfully into the headwind Drysdale led by three and a half lengths at the mile signal and by three lengths at the Finish.

Easily beaten by R. Braas in Round 2 of 4.

Sydney University Boat Club (NSW) - Hamish T Playfair

Easily beaten by A. W. Campbell in Round 2 of 4.
