On Saturday National Training Centre, Australia were drawn against Leander Club and Molesey Boat Club. The Leander composite took an early lead off the Start, but the Australians took control of the race and led by a foot at tbe Barrier. The Final of The Grand was an amazing, nail-biting race and arguably the race of the Regatta. The pace off the Start was formidable, with both crews rating above 46, and the high ratings continued throughout, not coming below 41. The Romanians took both the Barrier and the Fawley Records, but the Australians were biding their time and never lost contact.
