2025 Oceania Under 22 Rowing Championships

A full set of images of the regatta from Matt Nielsen can be found on the Australian Rowing Images website.
In 2025, the series evolved into a teams based competition for under 22 athletes representing their State (in the case of Australia), island (in the case of New Zealand), or country (in the case of visiting teams). The event is open to athletes that:- have reached the age of 18 as at the first day of competition and,- will be 21 or younger as at the 31st of December in the year of competition with the exception of Para athletes who are exempt from the maximum age. AND:- have not made an U23 or Senior A National Team in the year of competition- are not a current member of the Australian National Training Centres. Each team can comprise 28 athletes as follows: 2 lightweight rowers, 10 open, one para per gender and 2 coxswains on any gender. On day one, there are heats and finals of singles and pairs. On day 2, these rowers move in a quad and four, plus one more boat of either - again both heats and finals. On day 3, the races are an eight by gender and a mixed eight. Each event accrues points and the team with the highest number of points wins the Rusty Robertson Trophy.
The event was conducted on the West Lakes course in Adelaide over three day from 25-27th July 2025.

Phil Mangelsdorf offered the following commentary on the last day of racing:
Victoria won the Rusty Robertson perpetual trophy for the most successful Under 22 years team through all events at the three day regatta with SA second.
The mixed eights was a close, even and hard fought race with most of the six boats in close contact for the first 1500 metres where Victoria took a boat length lead which they held to the finish ahead of Tasmania who were just ahead of Queensland then SA at the end.
New Zealand had two teams in the Oceania competition representing the North and South Islands but they combined for the womens coxed eights to dominate the field and win by over a boat length from Victoria with Queensland third just ahead of SA.
The closet race on the final day was the mens coxed eight where after an even start the two leading boats were NZ North Island and Victoria but in the last 500 metres the SA crew lifted their stroke rating for a barn storming finish to power past Victoria and then row down the Kiwi crew over the last few metres to win by just 0.26 of a second in a photo finish.
Victoria were less than a length behind and only 1.52 secs ahead of the NZ South Island crew in a high standard race.
Rowing SA hosted this first time, new event format and despite the challenging weather conditions the quality and standard of racing and competition led to a favorable consensus from athletes and officials that this Under 22 teams regatta should be continued annually in the future.
