1973 SATIS Head of the River

Tamar River

First Eight:

In 1973, Scotch College managed to break Hutchins School's stranglehold on the Golden Fleece Cup, by defeating them by 1½ lengths. The Friends' School were third, and Launceston Church Grammar in fourth.

This was Scotch College's first ever win since the premiere event changed from Fours to Eights. Their last win of the Golden Fleece Cup prior to 1973 was 25 years earlier (1948).
