1964 SATIS Head of the River

First Eight:
Hutchins School won their first ever eights title at the Tasmanian Head of the River. The previous win by Hutchins in 1957 was when the race was conducted in fours.
The Launceston Mayor, Alderman Turnbull, presented the Golden Fleece Cup to Robert Vincent, the stroke of the Hutchins crew.

Of note in this race was a protest lodged by Friends against Hutchins for erratic steering and failing to keep to its course. The umpire, Merv Ford, dismissed the protest as it made no difference to the outcome of the race. However he added that his decision would have changed had Hutchins won.
