Olympic and Paralympic Games—London 2012

London Olympic Games

Poster from the 2012 London Games

The Australian Olympic rowing team was initially selected in March 2012 with all crews qualified. Initially the women's eight was not going to be sent for qualification, but this decision was reversed. They subsequently qualified in Europen racing.

Kim Crow was the standout rower for Australia at these Games as she claimed silver in the women’s double sculls with Brooke Pratley and bronze in the single sculls. She was the only rower from any country to double up at these Games.

Regrettably there were no gold medals for the Australian team but a very respectable five minor medals won in the Olympics and one silver medal in the Paralympics. This was very reminiscent of the team's performance at the 2000 Sydney Games. Disappointments included the 2008 Olympic Champion men's double scull whose performance was by impacted severely by injury and fourth placings in the women's quad and men's lightweight four - so close.

Course

The course was at Dorney Lake, a 2,200m, eight lane course with a separate return lane constructed to international standards by Eton College. The course hosted the Rowing World Championships in 2006, with high praise from both competitors and spectators. Dorney Lake is set in a 400 acre park with a Nature Conservation area.
