The IGSSA website reported as follows:
2025 IGSSA WA Head of the River: A Wet Finale to a Season of Sunshine
After a season of near-perfect rowing conditions, the 2025 IGSSA WA Head of the River was contested under grey skies and steady drizzle at Champion Lakes Regatta Centre. Despite the chilly weather, the calm water provided a fast course for a day of high-quality racing and fierce school spirit.
PLC set the tone early, edging out a tight win in the Old Scholars Race, before going on to dominate the Year 10 VIII and Senior Quad divisions. Their momentum continued throughout the day, with commanding performances across all Year 10 Quad divisions and a clean sweep of the Senior VIII races, culminating in a powerful victory in the Premier First VIII event, their tenth consecutive win in this race.
John XXIII College impressed in the Senior Single Scull divisions, while Perth College and PLC were standouts in the Junior Sculls, delivering strong performances across the divisions.
In the Freshman ranks, Perth College came into the regatta as favourites in both the Freshman VIII and Quad categories, and they didn’t disappoint. However, St Hilda’s rose to the occasion in the Freshman A Quad, claiming a well-earned victory and showing the depth of their up-and-coming talent.
The spotlight remained on PLC’s Senior program, which has delivered a dominant season across multiple divisions. They showed their strength in all the Year 10 Quad divisions. Their Senior VIII crews remained victorious in all divisions, and they steamed home in the Premier event of the day. They now have 10 consecutive First VIII wins in a row!

The day belonged to PLC, whose sustained dominance across divisions saw them crowned Champion School of the River, taking home the Wendy Zuideveld Trophy for 2025. Perth College and St Hilda’s shared the honour of second place in a rare tie. With consistent results across all age groups throughout the season, PLC also secured the Season Premier Trophy for a record 15th time—cementing their place at the top of the IGSSA WA rowing ranks.
