A newspaper report previewing the 1932 Victorian crew remarked on Wilson as follows:

D K Wilson  - Hawthorn. Age 23. Height 6 ft 1 in. Weight 12.2. Commenced rowing in 1924. He won a maiden eight at Warrnambool and Colac in 1924-25; maiden four, Ballarat 1925; junior eight Barwon 1925, double senior eight Barwon and Ballarat 1932.
