Allan Sloss

Mercantile Rowing Club (VIC)

Allan joined the Club in 1927-28 season as a junior.

His first known race was in the first lightweight maiden eights race in Victoria at the Footscray Regatta in November 1927. Sadly he did not win but joined with another notable Mercantilian, Wally Turnbull in that crew.

His administrative skills were quickly noticed and he was made the Assistant Secretary for the following season, 1928-29. This did not hold back his rowing winning several races including rowing bow in the Champion Junior Eight.

The following season, 1929-30, Allan became the Club's Secretary.

In his obituary in the 1955-56 annual report, Allan was described as a successful oarsman and capable secretary. It also noted that after retiring from competitive rowing, he devoted much time to our social activities.
