John E Robertson
John 'Jack' Ernest Robertson was the second son of Hon. William Robertson, a Geelong Grammar and Oxford University rower.
Descendent Malcolm Robertson wrote in his unpublished essay on the Rowing Robertsons in April 2025, that Jack attended Oxford and excelling at sports before embarking on a career in the military. He attended Geelong Grammar School and rowed in the school crew before attending Oxford. Jack was captain of boats at the school for two years in 1885 and 1886 and rowed in the crew each year. This was in the era of being raved in four oared boats. Both his oars are in the family archive. Unlike his father and his brother William St L Robertson, he did not race in The Boat Race.
His son Donald Struan Robertson also raced for Geelong Grammar in the six seat of their 1912 First VIII.
