Andrew Phillips

Mercantile Rowing Club (VIC)


Andrew Phillips came to Mercantile some 20 years after rowing at Sydney Grammar and University of New South Wales. He was recruited to Mercantile by Bill McKenzie-McHarg when their respective daughters were racing at St Catherines.

Andrew continues to play vital administrative roles at the Club as well as row successfully as a masters rower.

1974 – GPS Head of the River Sydney Grammar first crew – Second

1977 – University Championships Men’s Eight University of New South Wales – seventh

2008 to present – Administrator of the Club’s Trust Funds

2012 to present –  Mercantile Committee

Why rowing? “The exercise, company and being in a good boat when it goes fast. Those who have not experienced it just don’t get it.”
