J R Morrison

Mercantile Rowing Club (VIC)

The following obituary appeared in the 1944-45 Mercantile Rowing Club annual report.

Mr. J. R. Morrison came to the Club as a recruit from Scotch College in 1909.

He started his racing career auspiciously by winning his Maiden Four at Seymour regatta a few weeks later and quickly following this with the Maiden Eight at Melbourne regatta.

Unfortunately his services were lost to the Club when he left Melbourne to take up his residence in the Western District.

He retained his interest in Mercantile, and was one of the first to contribute towards the fund for rebuilding the Boat-house after its destruction by fire.
