Herbert S Maddern MM

Jeparit Rowing Club (VIC)

Herbert Stephen Maddern was born in Kaniva Victoria.

He was a 19 year butcher at the time of his enlistment at Dimboola on 19th March 1915 - service number 912.

Herbert served at Gallipoli before being evacuated with pleurisy. He then served in France.

He was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field at Pozieres on 22nd August 1916. He was wounded in that action with a gun shot wound to the forearm and repatriated to England.

After again serving in France he was returned to Australia on 22nd July 1919.
