Alex Kinsella

Mercantile Rowing Club (VIC)

Alex commenced his rowing at Carey Grammar in 2009 and raced in the first crew in 2012 and 2013. Whilst he rowed socially in 2014, it took until his first serious season at Mercantile in 2014-15 to win his first race. It was the C Grade eight at the Head of the Yarra. He has learnt all too quickly the winning ways of Mercantile.

2009 – Commenced rowing

2012 – APS Head of the River Carey First crew – second in B final

2013 – APS Head of the River Carey first crew – third in B final

2014 – Head of the Yarra C Grade  – First

2015 – Victorian Championships – A & B eights and C coxed four – all first

2015 – National Championships – Under 21 double scull – Bronze

2015 – National Championships – Under 21 quad scull – Silver

2015 – Henley Royal Regatta Thames Eight quarter finals

He regards as his best races his first win in 2014 Head of the Yarra of course, but also his quad scull race at the Nationals after only two weeks sculling. They were in third place at the half way point but rowed through to a silver medal by clear water.

Why rowing? “Fun, tough, requires effort or get donuts, the company and they are all great blokes.”
