Sam Hookway
Melbourne University Boat Club (VIC) and Cambridge University Boat Club (UK)
Sam commenced his rowing at Hutchins School in Hobart Tasmania before moving to Melbourne to finish his schooling at Melbourne Grammar School. Sam finished his school rowing in the Melbourne Grammar School First VIII which won the APS Head of the River in 2009.
He joined Melbourne University where his rowing career blossomed and included representing his State and country. He became an accomplished sweep oared rower and sculler.
Although he did not race, he was capable of selection in either the 2018 Victorian Kings Cup crew or the President's Cup. He competed in the President’s Cup.
In 2011, he rowed with future Cambridge University Boat Race participant Henry Meek (Boat Race 2017).
Following his medical studies at both Melbourne and Monash Universities, Sam continued his studies at Cambridge University with a Masters in Surgery. This also enabled him to continue his rowing and compete successfully in The Boat Race for Cambridge University Boat Club in 2019.
At the time of writing this profile, Sam is pursuing his medical career as an orthopaedic registrar.
