John D Halliday

John was an accomplished school rower rowing in four first crews, winning two in 1966 and 1967 and stroking 1968 King's College (now Pembroke SA) crew. His 1968 crew went onto win the Australian Championship Schoolboy Eight Championship.
He then went onto serve in the Royal Australian Air Force which brought his rowing career to an end. He served in the Air Force as a pilot for 12 years both in Australia and overseas.
However his rowing aspirations continued through his wife, his daughters and grand children. His daughters Bianca and Amber raced with Pembroke and Amber became a rowing Olympian. He did return rowing as a masters rower with Pembroke Masters and South Australian rowing umpire.
John and wife Penny were great volunteers to the sport and were regulars helping regattas both in South Australia and nationally. John was a South Australian umpire who served most weekends during the rowing season.
