Georgie Gleeson

Mercantile Rowing Club (VIC)

Georgie commenced her rowing in year 9 at St Catherine’s and progressed successfully through school rowing to end up in a successful first eight in 2016. Whilst that crew finished third at the Head of the Schoolgirls that year, they won the National Championship.

2017 was an equally good year at Mercs. Georgie raced in under 21 pairs, fours and eights and also under 23 eight at the Nationals.

Georgie finished third in the under 21 pair, won the four and the Bicentennial Cup for Victoria at 2017 Australian Championships. Georgie raced in the five seat of the eight.

The 2018 season went one step better with Georgie winning the under 21 pair, four and eight at the National Championships and a third placing in the under 23 eights.

In response to why she likes rowing, Georgie responded with a similar refrain to many rowers, routine, community and fitness. Why Mercs? The people and a supportive and great environment in which to row and race.

Most memorable race? 2016 National Championships where her crew won from start to finish to take the National School Eights Championship.

Keep an eye on Georgie’s rowing career, her start has been stellar.
