Richard A Cooper Snr
Mercantile Rowing Club (VIC)
The following obituary appeared in the 1942-43 Club annual report.
By the death of Mr. R. A. Cooper, Senr., father of your esteemed member, Dr. R. A. Cooper, Mercantile has lost a valued friend and supporter.
His association with the Club extended over a period of 40 years. It was brought about by the keen interest which his wife took in its welfare. She rendered invaluable services in connection with our social activities. On her untimely death, Mr. Cooper continued his interest, and for many years was one of your Vice-Presidents.
The fact that his son served the Club first as a coxswain, then as a sculler and oarsmen, and later as coach added to his interest. His passing is felt particularly by the older members of the Club who knew of, 'and were greatlv appreciative of, the great services rendered to it by the Cooper family.
