James M Almond

Jeparit Rowing Club (VIC)

James Meade Almond was born in Trentham about 1886.

He was a 29 year old bank officer with the National Bank when he enlisted in Rainbow on 8th February 1915. He had previously served 3-4 years in the Cadets. 

Almond joined the 22nd Battalion and served at Gallipoli with 13th Light Horse Regiment. He was promoted to Sergeant in August 1916. 

As with many others, he contracted enteric fever at Gallipoli and suffered post typhoid debility. Being classified medically unfit, he was returned to Australia on 21st January 1916. He was discharged on 20th September 1916 in Australia.
