A James Ternes

South Melbourne Rowing Club (VIC) now Albert Park South Melbourne Rowing Club (VIC)

Albert James Ternes was a South Melbourne rower who served in WWI. 

He was an active rower prior to the war as the following indicates.

1909 - Henley on Yarra, Men's Maiden Four, bow seat - First

1909 - Seymour Regatta, Men's Maiden Four - First

1910 - Bairnsdale Regatta, Men's Junior Four, bow - First

He enlisted for WWI in July 1915 and his occupation was noted as a joiner. He was promoted in the field to corporal but was wounded in 1916. the details of the seriousness of the wounding is not disclosed. He was returned to Australia for home service in 1917 and finally discharged as medically unfit due "an old right foot injury".
