Richard J Matthews

Antwerp Rowing Club (VIC)

Matthews was born in Port Melbourne and was a 24 year labourer when he enlisted in Dimboola 10th July 1915. His parents were deceased and his next of kin was his sister.

He was obviously a good soldier being promoted in the field to the rank of Sergeant. He was in the Cycle Corp for much of his time in France.

After returning from leave in England on 7th September 1918, he was killed in action the next day in France.
