Norman Jackson

South Melbourne Rowing Club (VIC) now Albert Park South Melbourne Rowing Club (VIC)

Norman Leslie Jackson was a 24-year-old accountant who was born in Stawell and lived at 42 Swallow St, Port Melbourne.

He was a member of the South Melbourne club who had joined by the 1913-14 season.

Norman enlisted on 21st July, 1915 as a sergeant in the 29th Battalion. He arrived in France in June 1916, and was promoted to 2nd lieutenant in February 1917. He was promoted again to lieutenant three months later and then sent to England to recover from fever.

He returned to France in February 1918. Norman was killed in action on 23rd July, 1918 and is buried at Mericourt L’Abbe Bret Cemetery.
