John N Devoy

Commercial Rowing Club (QLD)

In his book Rowing in Queensland, Jack Pritchard reported on the death of Devoy as follows.

In December, 1942, John Devoy passed away after a long illness. He had been a lifelong supporter of rowing, being a member of the winning Queensland Champion Four in 1882 and 1883, an Intercolonial representative in 1885, acted as a boat race official, was a Vice-President for many years and was elected as an Honorary Life Member of the Association in 1932.

1882 - Queensland Championship Men's Four, bow - First

1883 - Queensland Championship Men's Four, bow - First

1885 - Intercolonial Championship Men's Eight, bow - Fourth (Queensland's first representation in this event)

1900 to at least 1927 - Vice-President of Queensland Rowing Association

1904 - Queensland selector

1920 - Interstate Championships Women's Four, starter

1932 - Elected Life Member of Queensland Rowing Association
