The 1943-44 Mercantile annual report posted the following obituary.
Members of a decade or more ago will recall that Bill, as he was affectionately known to all, was for some time chief custodian of property.
Of a bright and pleasing personality, he was happy at all times to repair equipment, as well as taking out novices and other crews.
His prompt attention to minor repairs greatly assisted in the fleet and oars being maintained at a high standard of efficiency.
Due to his help and interest in essential details, many social activities were very successful, and the Club is poorer for his passing.
