G Eric Fairbairn

(18 August 1888 - 20 June 1915)

1908 The Boat Race - Cambridge University, two seat - First

1908 Olympic Games - Men's Pair - Silver

1911 The Boat Race - Cambridge University, seven seat - Second

(In 1909 he missed the Boat Race because of illness.)

Fairbairn was born in Melbourne and was a nephew of George and Stephen Fairbairn. He was educated at Geelong and at Jesus College, Cambridge.

Stephen Cooper in his book 'The Final Whistle: the Great War in Fifteen Players' provides a chapter on Fairbairn.

Regrettably, Eric Fairbairn died in action in World War I on 21 June 1915 at the age of 27.
