The Queenland crew were first through the 500m, 1000m and 1500m in times of 1:21, 2:50 and 4:23 respectively, but the Victorian crew coached by David Pincus, produced a superlative final 500m. The crew's rating actually dropped to 37, and with no sign of anxiety and a flawless, fluid rhythm, the Victorian Youth Eight swept to a 2.5 second victory over second placed Queensland.
