The stroke of the Victorian crew was David Palfreyman had successfully
made the transition from cox to rower.
The authenticity of the following story is unknown as is the identity of the oarsman involved but it makes good reading and is sourced to Harry Robinson via David Cannon:
At the weigh-in, a Tasmanian oarsmen stepped onto the scales with his track suit on, and was over the limit. He then took his track top off, stepped on - still over weight. Off came the track suit bottom - still overweight. Of came the singlet - still overweight. Off came the shorts - still overweight. Off came the jocks, now nude - still overweight but the scales are teetering. He then took out his false teeth, and stepped onto the scales. The scales wavered, but he had made it! |
