The Petition of Harold Clive Disher, of "Locksley", Rosedale, in the State of Victoria, humbly
showeth:
1. That your petitioner was a member of the Australian Imperial Expeditionary forces and served in
Belgium and France during the recent War.
2. That your petitioner rowed as stroke in the Australian Imperial Expeditionary Force eight oar crew
which won the King's cup at the royal Henley Peace Regatta at Henley-on-Thames in July, 1919.
3. That the said Cup was at the conclusion of the race presented to your petitioner.
4. That the said Cup was then taken possession of by the Australian Imperial Expeditionary Forces Sports
Control Board.
5. That since the said Cup was taken possession of by the Australian Imperial Expeditionary forces
Sports Control Board, the said crew have neither seen nor had possession of the said Cup.
6. That the said Cup is now in the possession of the Australian War Museum Committee at Melbourne in
the State of Victoria.
7. That all of the members of the crew and soldier oarsmen generally throughout the Commonwealth of
Australia, desire that the Cup should be treated as a perpetual trophy to be competed for annually
in the Interstate Eight-oar Race held in the various States of the Commonwealth, such Race being the
eight-oar Championship of Australia.
8. That 4,097 oarsmen throughout the Commonwealth were members of the Australian Imperial Expeditionary
Forces.
9. That at the Annual Conference of the Rowing Associations of each State of the Commonwealth held
at Brisbane, in the State of Queensland, on the 14th May, 1920, it was unanimously decided to ask the
Australian War Museum Committee to allow the said Cup to be treated as a perpetual trophy as set out
in paragraph 7 of this Petition.
10. That the Australian War Museum Committee declines to make the said Cup available for the purposes
specified in paragraph 7 of this Petition.
And your petitioner therefore humbly prays that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased to make known
your wishes in regard to the disposal of the said Trophy.

Dear Sir,
By direction of my committee, I am enclosing a petition from Captain H. C. Disher to His Majesty
the King, concerning the disposal of the King's Cup.
2. My committee will be grateful if you will kindly place the petition before His Excellency
the Governor general, with a request that he might be pleased to transmit it to His Majesty.

The action taken in preparing the dispatch of this petition was confirmed at the Committee meeting
on 1st Nov 1920. The petition had to be dispatched the subsequent day as it was learned that War
Memorial Committee had written to the King asking his concurrence in their action in placing the
Cup in their possession.
